Launched in 2012, Beep (Bi-Ennial Exhibition of Painting) is a contemporary painting prize bringing together artists from all over the world. Taking place every 2 years, Beep supports imaginative and vibrant practice in contemporary painting.

This year, Beep returns with an expanded programme of satellite painting led exhibitions and symposiums around the main prize show in partnership with Swansea & Cardiff galleries.

The selectors this year for the main prize show are celebrated artists Steph Goodger & Enzo Marra who picked 107 painters. The main winner will receive £1000 and a solo exhibition with elysium gallery in 2020.

This year there are TWO Welsh artists awards, with £200 sponsored by the Friends of the Glynn Vivian and the André Stitt Award in association with TEN gallery, Cardiff. This is an award of £1000 to support the practice of a Welsh or Wales-based painter, Prize money was raised through sales of preparatory studies, painted by Stitt during the 2020 pandemic lockdown, with the sale price dedicated as an award to a recipient selected by Stitt and TEN gallery director, Cat Gardiner. There is also a people’s prize of £200 selected by the visitors to the show.

*This year due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions there will not be a specific preview evening and instead we will just open our doors to the exhibition on the day. We will be limiting the number of people permitted into the Gallery at any one time and introducing a number of other measures to keep our visitors and staff safe. We will be staying open until late in the evening and there will be other exhibitions opening in and around Swansea on Sat 3rd October. So please be patient and everyone will get to see the shows.
