The works presented are a series of abstracted and figurative pieces, an overall depiction of youth and idleness during late summer in occupied lands. These images string together a loose narrative and are interspersed with abstracted, circular drawings.

The narrative, like many stories told through the haze of summer heat, is ambiguous and without a distinct opening or conclusion. The viewer can reveal a glimpse here or there; a young woman on the cusp of discovery, a male figure lays in the long grass. A tank idles in the blaze of summer sun.

All the while, the viewer is presented with a repetition of intricate circular images; isolated pockets of turmoil and tranquillity.  These worlds are fluid and seamless, coexisting and overlapping one another, never once blending together or becoming a whole.

From here the viewer can step out and glance upon a story in a place that is somewhat surreal, but not unlike our own world.

David Long is an Illustrator and Muralist based in Swansea, whose work is influenced by all manner of literature, film, music and pop culture. David explores figurative imagery with abstracted elements, emphasising expressions of dynamic movement and applying weight and density to the work.

Dave has a studio at Elysium Artist Studios, Orchard Street, Swansea
