Essentially I create work that is an amalgamation of memories and observations. I am influenced by my upbringing in rural Wales as well as journeys and experiences of foreign cultures. The landscape, memories and journeys are important elements in my work, but these images are often unrecognizable having been stripped back to basic shapes and forms.
Recently I have been focused on issues of identity and my relationship with the area where I grew up, that being Southern Eryri. It is a place that I feel firmly rooted in, my family having farmed the land there for centuries. I was brought up on stories that fuelled my imagination, colouring the landscape with a multitude of layers and giving me an awareness of it’s history and how it is continually changing.
