Photography Award | Wales | Espy photo award
ESPY are excited to present Deffrwch Cymru Cysglyd, a site responsive collaboration between photographers Ethan Beswick & Robert Law. Featuring new images, the work tracks the transition of a dormant, torpid North Wales as it emerges tentatively out of an enforced slumber. Integral to this emergence was the recognition of how crucial social interaction, interpersonal relationships and the role of the creative process of photography is. Not only identifying and detailing the human condition, but providing a community and support network for those who choose to participate.
As well as practicing as photographers, Ethan and Robert are also members of The North Wales Project. Formed in 2019 and comprising 5 photographers based in, or with a connection to, North Wales, the project aims to amplify the best in documentary photography from the area. In a region whose landscape images understandably dominate, the project aims to balance the pictorial narrative by documenting communities, people, less-observed places, or re-interpreting common stereotypes. The group held their debut exhibition in Oriel Colwyn in early 2020 and continue to promote excellence in regional documentary photography via their social media channels. The group recently presented to the RPS North Wales Region in a series of inspirational talks.
The exhibition will launch at espyphotoaward.com on Friday 15th of June.
There will also be the opportunity to hear Ethan and Robert discuss their works and their individual and collaborative practice in our next talk at 7:30pm, Wednesday 30th of June via zoom.
