Gallery open Tuesday – Saturday 12-7pm, Bar open until late.
elysium gallery launches its new permanent art centre opening in Swansea City Centre.
The revival of Swansea’s High Street continues when the new elysium gallery | Venue | Bar opens its doors at 210 High Street and it’s their biggest venue yet.
This will be the fifth home for the gallery in 12 years and it is certainly the most ambitious.
The new venue is housed in the sprawling former Champers Nightclub and will benefit from TWO main exhibition spaces, a maker in focus/project space, art in the bar, workshops and activities areas, bar and café facilities, regular live music and performance events with scope for further artist studios on the upper floors.
The new elysium gallery programme returns on Friday, April 12 at 7pm with the grand launch of the new venue and two major painting exhibitions.
Manchester-based Ruth Murray: Good Morning Midnight and Cardiff artist James Moore: The Penultimate Truth will take over the two main galleries. Swansea based artist Hazel Cardew will be the maker-in-focus, whilst local artist Fran Williams will be displaying her beautiful paintings in ‘Art in the Bar’ alongside a specially commissioned piece by Carmarthen artist Sophie Kumar – Taylor.
There will be live music late into the night by resident DJ Captain Chronic.
On Saturday 13th April there will be artist talks with Ruth Murray, James Moore and Hazel Cardew from 3pm and then live music by the Mud Skippers in the evening.
