Tim Kelly is a Swansea based contemporary artist working out of the elysiumgallery High Street Studios. He has also been in residence at the is this/this is…. Project space throughout November.
Tim’s practice is mainly painting, drawing consisting of large panoramic peopled landscapes inspired by medieval maps, graffiti and the movement of crowds. He is also a member of the 12:34 collective and organises events and pop exhibition throughout Swansea and beyond.
‘I’m prone to massive periods of idiotic and confused ranting much of which is reflected in my work up until now. The use of colour and mark making stretched upon each other layer upon layer has dominated my work thus far – Its time for a CHANGE of direction – and I’m hoping that my stay in the project space will act as an agent for change in my work’
elysiumgallery director Jonathan Powell has challenged Tim Kelly ‘To find the edit button within your practice!’
Situated in the elysiumgallery High Street studios, the is this/this is test-bed space is primarily used by residency artists and the elysiumgallery studios community. The aim is to enable artists to work and experiment towards creating new work in an environment outside of their usual studio practice in preparation for critical discussions within the group. The space enables artists to develop, to build, to take risks, to test and to invite peers to see the work in progress.
Only members of elysiumgallery studios and guests are invited to these group discussions. Ring 07980925449 if door is locked. There will be refreshments afterwards.
