LIVE POETRY BOOK LAUNCH: WINDFALLS & WORKING OUT
Susie Wild & David Hughes
Doors 7pm. Readings 7.30pm. Free Entry, All Welcome.
Join us for this in person event to celebrate the launch of two new poetry collections published by Parthian Books.
Working Out – David Hughes
‘In this second collection from the Swonzee boy who gave the city its enduring three-word motto ‘‘ambition is critical’’, readers are re-introduced to a poet who takes great delight in a sharpness of phrase… a poet of many voices, and it is a joy to see them all brought together in these pages; to hear them in these poems of Wales, the world and the points where the two meet.’ – Rhys Owain Williams
‘poems with range and verve and vim.’ – Jon Gower
David Hughes’s first collection Tidy Boy (Swansea Poetry Workshop 1998), won the Harri Webb Prize in 1999. In partnership with other poets he has written poetry and prose for specific locations in and around the Swansea area. His poetry has appeared in a number of magazines and anthologies. He lives in Swansea.
Windfalls – Susie Wild
‘Powerful, beautifully crafted poems…’ – Jonathan Edwards
‘Wild comes across as the poetic equivalent of Jean Rhys: wry, arch, a little world-weary but, unlike Rhys, with a sparkling glint of humour… A very affecting collection of poems indeed.’ – Buzz Magazine
‘This latest collection by Susie Wild is substantial, touching, entertaining and very fresh; […] love and life fall and decay but also one finds strange, unexpected gifts.’ – Gwales
Susie Wild is author of the poetry collection Better Houses and Windfalls, the short story collection The Art of Contraception listed for the Edge Hill Prize, and the novella Arrivals. Her work has recently featured in Carol Ann Duffy’s pandemic project Write Where We Are Now, The Atlanta Review, Ink, Sweat & Tears and Poetry Wales.
