An incredible line up of live music and visuals from some of south Wales’s finest groups.
Movement81 is the musical offspring of Swansea-based collaborative fine artists Jason&Becky, exploring the interconnected wormholes between 1980s indie synth and 1990s dance in a spaceship from the future, powered by the collective energy of today. Piloted by the two fine artists and philosophical researchers, their flightpath often connects with the wider themes of their art practice, realised through immersive, interactive audio-visual installations.
Recent gigs include support for Plaid at Clwb Ifor Bach in June ‘23 and Max Cooper at Tramshed, Cardiff, in October ‘23 as part of his 3D/AV tour. Their latest EP ‘Gift’, is their second release under independent label Petite Victory Collective.
The duo are currently working on a body of music and sound influenced by the Italian Futurists and Fortunato Depero’s 1930s designs. The Futurists’ fascination with technology and speed almost a century ago echoes many of our contemporary feelings towards the increasing use of Artificial Intelligences, with this work reflecting both visually and sonically on these themes.
A typical track is recorded live and in one take using Eurorack Modular, AKAI MPC Live and Ableton.
When not producing electronic music, Jason&Becky are practicing fine artists who create immersive and participatory audio-visual installation-based work.
Influences include New Order, David Byrne, Matmos, Haroon Mirza, Nonotak, Björk, Mike Nelson, Sophie Calle, Massive Attack, Portishead, Gui Boratto & Bicep
