The Jane Phillips Award has significantly supported several artists since its launch in 2011. It has been successful and is evolving, responding to the artistic community and forming new partnerships. We wish to develop and broaden the scope of the award by introducing two new exciting prizes, plus a year long programme of Residencies, including an international partnership, which will exist alongside the main award.
We will support, on an annual basis, two Art and Design graduates of UWTSD, Swansea and Carmarthen with a Student Prize. This will be in the form of an exhibition at our offsite space within the National Waterfront Museum, plus a Graduate Residency at the new Elysium Studios on High Street in Swansea. These will exist alongside and complement, the main Jane Phillips Exhibition Award which continues to be biennial and is announced later this year. This will be in the form of a solo exhibition at Mission Gallery and bursary.
In addition to this, we are delighted to reveal that the 2015 recipient of the Jane Phillips Curatorial Residency is Cardiff based Louise Hobson. Louise will be based at Elysium Gallery’s fantastic new studios in High Street, Swansea. She will also receive a Travel & Research Bursary, which will enable her to undertake a month long Curatorial Residency with our partners Residency Unlimited in New York www.residencyunlimited.
Further residencies are due to be announced shortly, including a Writer in Residence and an Education Residency. For further information and updates, please visit www.janephillipsaward.co.uk
