Investigating the socio-economic and socio-political condition, Jason & Becky work collaboratively to address a number of questions regarding our current human and social state. Through their practice, interventions and socially engaging experiments, they explore and provoke reactions, often with no pre-determined outcomes.
They challenge perceptions and aim to engage participants, blurring boundaries and pushing limits through interaction – often resulting in revealing insights into human relationships, questioning the judgements, beliefs, awareness, appreciation and understanding of others. Viewers and participants are often challenged to rethink their relationships to one another and their surroundings, confronting altered situations and simulated environments designed to create the uncertainty of internal dispute.
Jason & Becky are based in Elysium Studios, Swansea, and have exhibited in the UK and internationally. They were recently part of Elysium Gallery’s cultural exchange programme supported by Wales Arts International, travelling to Colorado with a group of artists for the ‘From Here & There’ drawing show. They have undertaken a number of Artist Residencies including Elysium Gallery, Gower College and National Theatre Wales. They are part of the CIVIC Network, and were involved in the CIVIC exhibition at Mission Gallery in 2014, curated by Bella Kerr, featuring collaborations between artists and architects (funded by Arts Council of Wales). Recent group exhibitions include ‘Public Information’ at Oriel Myrddin (curated by Craig Wood & Peter Finnemore) ‘From Here & There’ at Elysium Gallery and ‘Paradise Lost’ (tactileBOSCH) at Cardiff Contemporary. Jason & Becky were selected for the DIY:11 project in 2014 with Live Art Development Agency and National Theatre Wales.
