We must be still and still moving brings together various lines of enquiry that Lauren has been exploring throughout her residency period at Elysium Studios.
Acting almost as a town surveyor, Lauren has been investigating the circular nature of the desire for development along with the friction between renewal and the acknowledgement or celebration of the past. What are the implications of a long-standing building being torn down or a significant landmark being covered, removed or abandoned? This show presents a loosely associated collection of new works and found objects, including the hands of Swansea’s decommissioned Floral Clock, which bring these ideas into focus.
The show does not propose any answers, but acts as a catalyst for conversation to be had.
Lauren is an artist based in South Wales. She graduated from the University of Brighton in 2014, where she studied Fine Art: Critical Practice. Since then she has undertaken residencies locally in Wales, the UK and internationally. Lauren also works collaboratively with artist Sophie Lindsey, as ‘Site Sit’ they create site-responsive work and organise opportunities for artists to engage with place.
Recent presentations of Lauren’s work include, Culture Colony Intervention 4 at MOMA Machynlleth (2017), Rhôd in Roath (Made in Roath 2016) and Connections Open Studio (Kultivera Artist Residency in Tranås, Sweden 2016).
