Too many Painters – Artist talks and discussions

Venue: GS Artists

Event: Too many Painters – Artist talks and discussions

Dates: 7th, 14th & 17th October

The world of art dead? Gustav Metzger proposed The Art Strike but even his vision could not have foreseen these times of art stricken. Too Many Painters, featuring talks by Swansea College of Art alumni Jess Parry, and SCA alumni and GS Artists interns Connor Tudor, challenges and celebrates the Covid art catharsis crisis, asking, archly: Are there too many painters?

Too Many Painters will consist of 2 online artist talks with Jess and Connor on Wednesdays 7th and 14th October followed by a talk and discussion at a venue TBC on 17th October.

Jess Parry feels that the hand of the artist is indeed as violent as the hand of the butcher. As delicate as the hand of a seamstress and as intimate as the hand of the surgeon. “…there’s just something about the bathroom and that taboo associated with the figure and flesh that I’m really interested in right now”.

Connor Tudor is interested in Britain’s culture. From drinking culture, to masculinity and whiteness, he is interested in how Britain deals with these issues. Whether negatively or progessively he is interested in depicting moments which expose the undercurrents of our countries darker habits and thoughts.
