More Than the Land Remembers is a new body of photographic (and super 8 films) exploring female presence, transformation and power within Welsh landscapes shaped by industry, extraction and change. Through gesture, stillness and presence, the work considers what it means for women to occupy space, to be visible and feel a sense of belonging. At the heart of the work is an exploration of feminine power defined by presence, stillness, intuition and the capacity for change.
More Than the Land Remembers invites audiences to look beyond the surface of both landscape and experience. The work explores the layers held within these places, the visible traces of industry, the memories embedded in the body and land, the stories of the people who have passed through them, and the quieter histories that remain unseen. Just as the landscape contains layers of history, each woman carries her own accumulated stories, experiences, strengths and transformations. Through photography and film, the work seeks to uncover some of these layers and create space for what has been overlooked, forgotten or left beneath the surface. The exhibition is an exploration of what lies beneath what we think we know: the depth of a landscape, the complexity of a life, and the stories that continue to emerge long after the visible traces have faded.
Alongside the photography series, the exhibition includes super 8 poetry films created by Tracy in collaboration with Alicia Braid, through movement, voice performance and the female body, the films explore feminine empowerment and transformation; the breaking through of limitations, the embracing of change and the emergence of a stronger sense of self. Together, the films extend the photographic work into movement and time, creating a wider exploration of female becoming.
Tracy Harris’s practice explores human experience, transformation and the relationship between the visible and invisible. Coming from a multidisciplinary background in writing, film, performance and visual storytelling, she uses photography and film to create spaces where narrative, symbolism and embodied experience can meet.
‘Through this series, I am interested in the possibility of renewal and transformation; both within the individual and within the landscapes we inherit’.
Tracy Harris is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, film, theatre, television, radio and immersive. Her practice explores human stories, identity, transformation and the relationship between people and place. Her work has been produced and exhibited nationally and internationally, including with Sgript Cymru, Sherman Theatre, BBC and S4C. Her screen work includes the BAFTA-nominated Swansea: Living on the Streets, while her films have screened internationally, including at Cannes Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. Her play MumFighter won Best Director at the DEBUT Stage Awards 2025. In recent years Tracy has
developed photography as a central part of her practice. She was selected for Ffotogallery’s Higgins Exhibition in 2024 and exhibited at Made in 2025, with further international presentations in Rome, New York and London. Her photographic work combines storytelling, performance and landscape to explore female presence, transformation and alternative forms of power.
Alicia Braid is an experimental filmmaker and researcher whose practice translates philosophical inquiry into visceral, sensory cinema. Operating at the intersection of analogue materiality and cinematic phenomenology, she utilises the chemical imperfections of hand-processed Super 8 to bridge the gap between abstract theory and sensory reality, inviting audiences into a state of active witnessing.
